It is of particular interest to Landcare and Bushcare groups, Landmanagers, Farmers and anyone interested in Environmental Education.

Conservation means records for tracking the environment.
This means mapping!!!

Friday is an introduction to Spatial Mapping, as well as some significant information on conserving our marine and wetland coastal environments.

We will have a brief look at the tools, the types of software we can use, the types of data already out there, and why we should spend time mapping our patches. So if you have a laptop, GPS handheld or a 3G mobile phone bring it along. We end the session with a brief talk by our GreenCorps Team on the profiling they have done of of wetland areas.

After morning tea we will have a close look at a feature common to our coast that has almost no existing datasets - Rockpools with a talk and walk led by Jeannie Lawson of OCCI - Central Coast.

This will be followed after lunch by a coastal wetlands presentation and a walk around an intermittently opening coastal lagoon, with mapping techniques being demonstrated.

A second walk will focus on a freshwater wetland. Gum boots may be required so come prepared.

Saturday morning we assemble at Wardens Head for a hands on GPS training where we will endeavor to give everyone a go at capturing or recording a point, line and area or polygon.

We’ll explain when to use which type and what to record when you do. We will have 5 GPS units available for use the following week, so if you want your site or farm mapped then make your wishes known early as it will be on a first in basis.

Lunch is provided with a Bush Tucker BBQ at Ulladulla Lands Council provided by Budamurra Cultural Group and Elders from the Ulladulla Local Lands Council

We end the forum with a demonstration and talk by Cultural Officer of Ulladulla Local Lands Council on how to map a midden site.

We distribute and arrange return of the GPS units for use back on your site.

Forum ends 3.30pm Saturday
